Hasani Hennis, the 22-year-old Anguillian cyclist from Blowing Point, participated in the Thompson Bucks County Classic in Doylestown, Philadelphia on Sunday, 8th September amidst a field of 98 Pro US Cyclists. He is scheduled to compete in the UK at the UCI U23 World Championships following his wild card notification last week.
Following Sunday’s race, Hennis was offered an amazing opportunity by The Good Guys Racing Team NYC to undergo an intense pro training regimen leading up to his travel to the UK. The club has been superb hosts to Hennis over the past weekend and has approached the next 10 days of training with much enthusiasm.
While in New York Hennis will participate with the Good Guys Racing Team in The New Haven Grand Prix in New Haven Connecticut on Friday 13th September, allowing him yet another opportunity to race in a field of pros. “Some of the best professional and amateur cyclists make their way to [New Haven] for one of the season’s most anticipated race events. Over 15000 people are expected at the event for a chance to watch some intense cycling competition and, of course, have a whole lot of fun in the process.” The race will take place at night and information can be found on https://www.newhavengp.com/
On September 11th, Hennis will join Mr Thomas Eddie Kelly – an ongoing supporter and donor to Hennis – at the Cantor Fitzgerald 9/11 Charity Event. Not only will it be an amazing opportunity to attend such a prestigious event amongst athletes, celebrities and New York’s elite, it will also provide Hennis with networking experience and opportunities.
Hennis will remain in New York until Friday 20th September (originally scheduled to return to Anguilla on 10th). Facilitating this extension which cost in excess of $3500.00USD* was made possible through combined sponsorship contributions of Hennis’ 1st brand endorsement deal with VITA MALT and monetary contributions by Straw Hat Restaurant and Mr Thomas Eddie Kelly. Hennis’ team is grateful to the parties for understanding how imperative training and proper preparation will provide Hennis with the best chance possible at the World Championships and stepping up to assist.
Hennis will fly to the UK from New York where he will join Team Manager, Calvert “Junie” Fleming and his father, Brian Hennis in Manchester. The trio will travel to Leeds where they will stay for the duration of the trip: 21st to 29th September. Following the week of competition Hennis will join the Heat Wave Cycling Club as a guest rider to compete in the 5 Day Tour of Tobago.
