Having welcomed the latest cohort of online degree students in August, the University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Anguilla is now launching its 2019/2020 local face-to-face professional development programme.
These workforce and professional skills development courses form part of the University’s local Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) programme. Designed for persons pursuing tertiary education qualifications, as well as for persons who already have their degrees, the local programming seeks to enhance the knowledge and skills of the participants and fulfil workforce development needs.
Semester One will see the return of popular courses like Supervisory Management and Advanced Supervisory Management with Mrs. Aunika Webster-Lake, Foundation Mathematics I and II with Mr. Darwin Hazell and Conversational Spanish at the Introductory and Advanced levels with Mr. Colin Johnson.
Other courses being offered include Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, Finance for Non-Financial Managers, Introduction to Counselling, Law for Human Resource Practitioners (Employment Law), Occupational Health and Safety, Family Law, Introduction to Human Resource Management, Customer Care, Computer Literacy, Creative Writing and Business Writing and Communication, Digital and Brand Management.
This semester will also see the continuation of the Certificate in Early Childhood Education Care and Development programme for Early Childhood/Day Care Providers as well as the delivery of the Care for the Elderly programme. In response to workforce needs, the UWI Open Campus will also present workshops on Compliance Management, Employee Law and Protocol and Soft Diplomacy Skills.
Manager for the UWI Open Campus BOTs, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks says the Open Campus is pleased with the continued interest in and the growth of the local CPE programmes. “While the majority of our students are registered in our online programmes, the locally-delivered, professional development programmes are also an important part of our mandate. Accordingly, we continue to partner with our local stakeholders to meet these needs of the community,” the UWI Representative says.
Some 140 participants in the University’s 2018/2019 CPE Programmes were recognised at the annual Certificate Presentation Ceremony on 30th July and the UWI Open Campus Anguilla Team is anticipating another exciting and rewarding year.
Local CPE classes are slated to begin during the week of 16th September and interested persons are invited to contact the UWI Open Campus at anguilla@open.uwi.edu (telephone 497-8156) for further information.
