THE VALLEY, ANGUILLA – The National Disaster Management Committee in partnership with Sol and Delta Petroleum, Superior Trucking and Grieg’s Trucking, Vanterpool Trucking and Daddy’s Construction has embarked upon a National Cleanup Initiative. The objective is to mitigate against damage to persons and property as we enter the peak of Hurricane Season.

Through assessments, much loose debris including galvanize, pallet boards, and utility service lines were identified across the island. In the event of high winds or a storm, these objects are a threat to property and have the potential to cause injuries or death. The aim therefore is to carry out a major cleaning operation to remove the maximum amount of debris possible.
This national initiative will be done village by village. It will commence in West End and continue eastward in the weeks to follow, into Island Harbour.

The methodology is as follows:
Roll off bins/skips will be placed in strategic but easily accessible locations on Thursday, 12th September, 2019. Residents of West End, Long bay, Meads Bay, and the Cove are asked to place their debris in the bins provided.

On Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September, persons are asked to be part of the community clean up commencing at 7:30 am.

Bins will be removed on Monday morning for relocation to the Blowing point and Lower South Hill areas for the following Thursday.

In order for this initiative to be successful, all residents are expected to assist by depositing all potentially hazardous debris from their surroundings.

This debris may include zinc trapped in bushy areas, loose wood, and derelict structures and containers.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation in this very important National cleanup initiative. Let us continue to focus on safety and cleanliness as we strive to increase our preparedness and mitigation efforts for this Hurricane season and beyond.
