The newly rededicated Ebenezer Methodist Chapel once again staged it’s annual “Back to School Service” on Sunday 1 September 2019. This is the ninth years since the services, organised by the Mission and Evangelism Committee of the congregation, began, but due to the devastation of the Chapel in hurricane Irma in 2017 there was no service in 2018. Bro Sanford Richardson, coordinator, indicated the service held in 2017 was the last event held at the Chapel before its devastation.
This year’s theme was ‘Brighten Your Corner.’ Adherents of all denominations and faiths are welcomed to the event. The speaker for event was Mrs Aunika Lake, human resource consultant and motivational speaker. She based her message to the students, teachers, and parents on the scripture passage Matthew 5: 14-16: “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”
Over 50 students from The Valley and its surrounds were present. The students, all in uniform, ranged from preschool to sixth form level. Mrs. Lake challenged the students to brighten their corners by using their gifts and talents to God’s glory to make the world a better place, being kind to those you come in contact with, standing up for the right, and building others up.
The liturgist for the service was Fourth Form student, Jo’Ardie Richardson. The prayers were led by Valley Primary student, Jenavicia Reid, and the scripture read Sixth Form student, Ciara Banks.
Circuit Minister, the Rev Wilmoth Hodge, offered up prayers for students, teachers, and parents.
All students were presented with educational items in the form of exercise books, pencils and pens at the close of the service, compliments of the congregation.
