Improvements in literacy at the primary school level is of paramount concern to us as educators in light of technological distractions. Smart phone and social media use do not necessarily raise the level of literacy for our preteens. Therefore, it is important that we devise ingenious strategies to have our children engage in reading books at an early age.
As a result, we are selecting books that our students can relate– books that were written, illustrated, and presenting stories that are likened to our culture. Partnering with National Caribbean Insurance Company (NCIC) Ltd. to ensure we raise the bar of reading in our school system was a demonstration of good corporate social responsibility. Their philanthropic gesture in assisting the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School in securing the books made our work load easier and we are grateful.
It was the pleasure of the principal of Adrian T. Hazell Primary School, Ms. Tiffany Thomas, and the Literacy Coordinator, Ms. Joanne Snagg, to receive these books and convey special thanks to Mrs. Vernice Richardson, Manager of National Caribbean Insurance Company Ltd. Anguilla Branch and her entire organization. We look forward to fostering closer ties with other corporations desirous of assisting us in providing the necessary tools that contribute to the learning skills of our students. We are cognizant and happy that corporations like National Caribbean Insurance Company Ltd. do not view education as an expense but an investment.
