During the midst of the Summer School vacation, selected entry- level teachers participated in a training programme in which they were required to utilize their intuitive skills to create real-life scenes of their choice — such as a wedding setting, a party setting and a home-life scene.
The programme’s emphasis was on visual arts education at primary level which constituted part of a Joint Board of Teachers Education (JBTE) course currently underway at the Anguilla Community College.

Participating in the programme were: Navadeen Campbell and Shinelle Gumbs who created a party-time scene; Shakibah Fanus who created a wedding setting; Shelleciya Ashton who displayed an emergency room scene; Alovene Belle and Lisa Baron, both of whom created a graduation display; and Karisa Lake along with Carrin Richardson who together exhibited a creative scene depicting home-life traits, called “Anguilla My Home”. The scenes were displayed in five Campus B classrooms.

Participating teachers with Facilitator, Mrs Melsadis Fleming

Facilitator of the program, Mrs. Melsadis Fleming, expressed her satisfaction with the outcome of the displays. She remarked: “I was extremely impressed with the creative performance of these aspiring teachers. The work they did in these sessions speaks for them, and it indicates that they do take teaching to heart. They are indeed proud of their noble vocation.

“They enjoyed constructing the displays just as much as I enjoyed my role as instructor, and they have been quite encouraging. Their excitement has inspired me, especially since they are desirous of doing more creative scenes upon the completion of their courses at the Anguilla Community College.”
The Anguillan spoke with the potential teachers who said that they were satisfied and intrigued by what they were able to produce through the instructions they received from Mrs. Fleming. They are encouraged to follow through with more creations in the future.
