Mr. Curtis Richardson

The Honourable Minister of Transportation, Mr. Curtis Richardson, is hereby insisting that drivers exercise more due care and attention while operating motor vehicle and using the road throughout the island. Traffic is on the increase in Anguilla and we must be more vigilant.
In recent times there are far too many accidents at junctions due to reckless attitudes as well as disrespectful responses to other road users’ actions or inactions. Also sadly on the increase are the number of incidents involving drivers and pedestrians as well as drivers and cyclists. Most times it comes down to judgment. Do not ignore that sense you have to slow down or to stop just because drivers are blowing their horns or acting impatient. It is better to have persons feel your driving skills are not that of a racecar driver than to get into a situation of damages, injury or death. No one is too great a driver not to have a collision or mishap.
We must never be too much in a hurry to yield to other road users even when having the right of way as well as consideration for tight spots other road users may be caught in and need support and space to avoid damages, injury or death. I am reminding all of us that life is priceless and injuries most times alter our lives permanently. Let us go about using the roads in Anguilla and operating our vehicles as though we understand the dangers and perils about us. Oft-times, as I myself have witnessed, it takes one second of alertness and observation to avoid serious injury, damages or death.
I thank those who have always implored good and safe driving practices. I further insist that those of us who are not consistently keeping the rules of road safety do so. The life you save maybe your very own.
