After a few days break for carnival a second update on the Anguilla Programme with two good pieces of news about schools.
First, Orealia Kelly Primary. This Monday (19 August) MICHU signed a contract with Proctor Construction for the building of a new, two-storey classroom block. Mr Proctor aims to start work as early as next week and should have it all completed by the end of July 2020. Ms Marcia Brooks, the Principal, said that she was … “thrilled that construction will begin in the course of the next few days. The much-needed space that the work, once completed, will provide will make a significant difference to the environment in which our children learn.”
In our last update we noted that work on making Campus B building more “student-friendly” and hurricane proof would start soon. The good news is that the contract for this work was also signed on 19 August. The work, which will be undertaken by Linkus Limited, includes replacing damaged windows, installing new ceiling fans, updating the toilets and painting the building.
Minister Cora Richardson Hodge, who was at both contract signings, said that……….. “on behalf of the staff and students at OKPS and Campus B, I very much welcome the signing of these contracts. It shows a positive commitment by all of those involved in the Anguilla Programme to push forward the vital work needed to enable our students to be able to further their education in facilities that are fit for the purpose. My staff and I look forward to continuing working with the Anguilla Programme to ensure that work continues to get the other education projects to the contract stage soon.”
Looking ahead we expect to bring you further important news about tenders for work and contracts being awarded.
