47 AWARDED FOR FITNESS PARTICIPATION

On Wednesday, July 31, 2019, The Nutrition and Health Promotion Department; along with participants of the Anguilla Health and Fitness Challenge 2019, The Governor Mr. Tim Foy and Dr. Foy, staff of the Health Authority of Anguilla and Ministry Of Health (MOH), Platinum Sponsors Tackle Box Sports Centre, the Medical Air Services Association (MASA)and guests alike, celebrated the achievements of the participants at the Grand Finale Awards Reception; held at the recently renovated Anguilla Great House.

Approximately sixty seven participants enrolled in the programme conducted by the Nutrition & Health Promotion (NHP) Department at the Health Authority of Anguilla (HAA). This programme is one of the many initiatives conducted by the department as a prevention strategy, geared towards encouraging the general public to adopt healthy lifestyle practices, which include becoming more physically active and practicing healthier eating habits.


Commencing at the launch of the programme on April 30, 2019, the participants were challenged to practice the 3Ds, that is: to remain dedicated to the process of transformation especially beyond the competition, disciplined to the innovative meal plan and physical activities necessary for body transformation and determined to achieve their goals. Health and fitness indicators were individually assessed at scheduled intervals for all the participants in areas such as body weight, body fat, muscle mass, Body Mass Index-BMI, HbA1c and lipid profiles. Team spirit and camaraderie among participants were highly encouraged and fostered by members working together in teams uniquely named by the participants.

The highly anticipated Finale Awards Reception celebrated the achievements of the participants who endured the rigors of the challenge. Mr. Colin Johnson, chairman of the evening kept the audience entertained while he announced the most prominent achievements over the period as follows;

• First Place Winner – Mrs. Rose Hyder Carty; from the Green Rippin Lava Team. She won the challenge by achieving the most percent body weight lost and losing an overall 30.4 lbs; For this outstanding feat she was awarded An Obritek Exercise Bike jointly sponsored by HAA and MASA, The winning Trophy sponsored by Anguilla Social Security Board (ASSB) massage session courtesy of Cuisinart Resort & Spa.

• Second place Winner – Mrs Icilma Morton from Hi-Tek Orange Team. Mrs Morton proved that there is still credit to the old adage “age is nothing but a number.” She was second runner up in the challenge with a weight loss of 19.0 lbs. she was presented with gym equipment sponsored by HAA and Paramount Pharmacy. As well as the Second runner up Trophy sponsored by Anguilla Social Security Board (ASSB) and Lunch for two sponsored by Four Seasons Resort & Residences
• Third Place Winner – Ms Saskia Petty from the Purple TGIF Team. Ms. Petty lost a total of 29. 0 lbs. overall; and was congratulated with gym equipment sponsored by Tackle Box Sports Center, Third place Trophy and 1 hour deep tissue body massage from Fitness Instructor Mr. Joseph Pradel.

• Green Rippin Lava Team were the overall team winners, the team lost a combined total of 151.1lbs under the auspicious leadership of Mrs. Marslyn Hodge who also won a handset from FLOW. All the team members were awarded gold medal from ASSB and a gift offer from Xtreme Fitness Club.

• Lilac TGIF second with a combined total of 118.6 lbs. and the Red Shredderz team third with a combined total of 102 lbs. These team members were awarded silver and bronze medals respectively from Anguilla Social Security Board.

• The other teams in the competition were the Blue Trail Blazers, Yellow Team, Hi-Tek Orange Team and the Purple TGIF Team a total of seven (7) teams.

• Overall the combined total weight lost was 708.3lbs and Inches loss were 241.0


Certificates of appreciation were awarded to Fitness instructors Mr. Joseph Pradel, Shamar Jones and Desroy Findley for volunteering their time and expertise to improve the health of our population. Also MASA and Tackle Box Sports Center received plaques of appreciation for their unwavering support in sponsorship over the many years, and to Mr. Collin Johnson for his voluntary chairman expertise over the lifespan of the competition Finale.

We would also like to recognize Alliance Insurance Agency for their commitment and support by extension of their contributions to risk reduction and Safety including Healthcare over the years.
