In a spectacular show of pomp and pageantry last Saturday evening, June 29th, the Cuisinart Ballroom was the scene of the 17th annual Miss Venus Model Caribbean, hosted by Ms.Sheila Harrigan and her team.
Eleven young ladies took the stage in various categories to display their beauty, brain and brawn in a wide range of competitive segments including cocktail wear cultural speech, cultural swimwear, and evening wear. The bevvy of beautiful ladies was also judged for their participation in a promotional video and a group interview.
The judges carried out a very taxing task, and results at the end of the pageant showed that Miss. St. Maarten, Nayeli Hassle, emerged Winner; Miss St. Kitts, Kersha Martin, came in as 1st Runner-up; and Miss Trinidad and Tobago, Gabriella Bernard, got 2nd Runner-up position.
Ms. Harrigan remarked: “There is a lot of history about Miss Venus. We started it as a fundraiser event for the Bacchanal Splendor several years ago. It was first hailed as a local event called the Ms. Venus Model just for Anguilla. Some young ladies in St. Kitts soon heard about it and expressed a desire to join. Shortly after, St. Maarten came on board, and it was then that we decided to launch out to the wider Caribbean region.
“A lot of work goes into planning a Venus Model show. The hardest thing is to recruit candidates. It takes almost a year to organize, so as one show is ended we have to plan for the next.
“I wish to thank all the persons in the team who have supported me,” Ms. Harrigan said. “These include Hermia Smith, Glynne Buchanan, Carolyn Daniels, Kristina Davis, Markev Hughes and Javed Maynard.
Ms. Harrigan would also like to thank her faithful sponsors who have been supporting the event throughout the years. These include: the Department of Youth & Culture, Resorts and Residences by Cuisinart, E’s Oven, Elvis Beach Bar, Aronel, Bass Car Rental, D&D’s Car Rental, English Rose Restaurant, Nvie Boutique, Anguilla Great House, Premiere Services and Romcan Grocery.
