This is the first of a series of updates on the projects being worked on by the Anguilla Programme. We want to keep you updated and welcome your response and questions.

In education – local contractors are working hard to finish the roof of a new classroom at Vivien Vanterpool Primary School. At Adrian T Hazell Primary work has started on demolishing the current administration building. The roof and inside of the building has been removed, leaving the way clear for the rest of the building to be knocked down and the site cleared ahead of new building work. For the secondary schoolers the good news is that work will start soon on making Campus B buildings more “student-friendly” and hurricane proof with repairs to classrooms, windows and break out areas.

Things are happening in health as well – at the Princess Alexandra Hospital local contractors have installed a new medical waste incinerator. The second operating theatre is close to being reopened after many years, a new laundry facility will be up and running by the end of this week, and much needed new air conditioning units have arrived. Electrical cabling for lighting is being added to the perimeter wall. Malcolm Webster, Director of Facilities commented he was “very pleased with progress on the works currently being undertaken at Princess Alexandra.” The Hon Evans McNiel Rogers also commented that “the Minister of Health commends the contractors and staff of the Health Authority of Anguilla for their hard work over the last months as they continue to improve the facilities and quality of care at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.” Lots more to do but we’re moving in the right direction.

Elsewhere we’re getting closer to opening the Combined Services Building with final stage work on the car park and security guardhouse. Meanwhile, the Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service are moving into the building. Local contractors are laying cable to connect two new back-up generators for the building and the airport in case of a power outage.

Finally, bids for the new jetty at Road Bay are being evaluated this week. We look forward to a contract being awarded soon and work starting.
