Ms. Taydra Fahie, granddaughter of the retired Reverend Richard Fahie, graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, with a concentration in Construction Engineering, from Temple University on May 9th 2019. When asked about being the only female in her concentration, Ms. Fahie said, “I was not intimidated by this and it was amusing when my professors would swiftly slap on ‘and lady’ when he addressed the class collectively.”
Ms. Fahie, during her matriculation at Temple, was a national member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).
Taydra served on executive boards for those two organizations as well as for the Student Organization for Caribbean Awareness (SOCA). Earlier this year, she was selected to attend the BEYA STEM Conference which brings professionals and students together for three days to share their experience, through seminars and workshops, and to chart their way forward personally and professionally.
During a brief return to Anguilla post-graduation, Ms. Fahie was invited to speak to several classes at her alma mater Orealia Kelly Primary School. She encouraged the students to take advantage of their education – thus laying a proper foundation so that they have a variety of fields to choose from when selecting a career.
Taydra says she is carefully plotting the next phase of life’s journey.
