On Friday, this week, June 21, the Agricultural Department’s grounds will be the scene of much activity as a number of stakeholders have combined to present the 11th Annual All Hazard Risk Reduction and Safety Fair, commencing at 9 a.m.
This follows a press conference held by ANGLEC and other stakeholders, late last week, to advise media representatives and the public about the Fair which has as its theme: “Think Safety, Plan Safety, Live Safely.”
Speaking at the press conference, ANGLEC’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Jemilia Morson-Hodge, told reporters: “We are very excited to officially announce our 2019 Health and Safety Fair. We really want to focus on informing members of the public about the event and to encourage them to come out. Every year there are a lot of students who participate heavily in the Fair, but we really want the general public to take interest in the event. It doesn’t only apply to the children and the utility workers. It is very important for everyone.”
According to a follow-up press release on Tuesday, June 18, from the Department of Disaster Management, the Fair, with diamond sponsorship by ANGLEC, will offer demonstrations and activities on a wide array of areas. These will include workplace safety, personal health, crime prevention, personal security, occupational health & safety, water and fire safety and health screening.
The press release continued: “The organisers plan to educate members of the public on techniques and strategies that can be used to reduce risks of serious accidents; risks in the home and workplace; and other hazards – as well as how to mitigate against existing and potential mishaps negatively impacting the island’s social and economic fabric.
“Participants in the Fair will include stakeholders from the private and public sectors who will occupy booths promoting safety materials. They will encourage a culture of awareness of all potential and existing hazards to students, parents and a cross-section of the general public. It is anticipated that this safety expo will assist disaster management officials and other stakeholders in promoting safety – thereby resulting in improved mitigation and response efforts by the residents of Anguilla.”
In addition to ANGLEC, as the Diamond Sponsor, there are the Platinum Sponsor – Delta Petroleum; and Gold Sponsors – Sol Anguilla Ltd and Seven Seas Water.
