Suffolk University of Boston, Massachusetts held its 2019 Commencement Exercise on Sunday May 19th. Among its graduates was one proud Anguillian achiever, Mr. Malik Richard. Malik is the son of Sean and Myra Richard of Sea Feathers.
During the past 4 years, Mr. Richard has been pursuing Bachelor of Science & Bachelor of Arts Degrees at Sawyer Business School at Suffolk University. Due to his outstanding performance, he had the privilege of being elected to present the Students’ Address. Extracts of that address, which he presented without script, are as follows:
“My race never started on a smooth track. There were many hurdles to overcome, in fact. You see, I was never taught to dream big. There was no measure for what big was, so I struggled to envision it daily. But, little did I know that in order to find that big measure, I only had to come to Suffolk University.”
Mr. Richard gave a prominent testimonial of the university by saying: “Suffolk ensures that we are equipped with every resource necessary to become experts in both technology and interpersonal relations where we learn to bridge the gap between love for devices and love for people. This enables us to accept each other’s differences for their support and development.”
In closing, he had a salient message of admonition for his peers: “My fellow classmates, I want to leave you with a secret: in this race of life, you must remember that not every spectator will cheer for you. Not every spectator is going to want you to win. But that is perfectly OK, cause we have trained and sweated for this moment.
“I do believe that our strong work ethics were built upon the words of Martin Luther King Jr. who once said, ‘if you cannot fly, then run; if you cannot run then walk; if you cannot walk then crawl. But whatever it takes we must keep moving forward.’ Class of 2019 we are moving forward and we are going beyond the limits.”
