An air of excitement and feting pervaded Campus B of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School on Wednesday, May 29, as the school celebrated its 8th Heritage Fest 2019. The event coincided with the Anguilla Day activities and was held under the theme: “Building concrete – building character”.
“Every year, just before Anguilla Day, the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School engages in a Heritage Fest,” the Principal, Mrs. Rita Celestine Carty, told The Anguillian newspaper. “The whole purpose is to highlight to the children of the school cultural practices both past and contemporary that characterise Anguilla.
“It is also to get the children to respond to their own civic responsibilities and their duties to preserve, and continue to build Anguilla, so that future generations can see what they are doing now as a determination of their own lives.”
Mrs Carty added: “We are very proud to be able to commemorate the 8th edition of the school’s Heritage Fest 2019.”
A number of children, interested in traditional outdoor cooking, including baking johnny cakes, making coconut sugar cakes, sweet potato pudding and in other forms of culinary, participated in the event under the guidance of a number of community persons. Exhibits of various items of home and traditional life took up a number of classrooms and open spaces.
There was also a lively fashion show with some of the participants attired in the national colours of Anguilla.
