Chief Fire Officer Shondell Hodge is appealing to members of the general public to avoid unnecessary burning. Mr. Hodge stated: “During this dry, hot and humid season the grass and vegetation are generally dry, which means if you accidentally start a fire outdoors it can spread very quickly destroying everything in its path. With the dry weather set to continue for the unforeseeable period, we are asking the general public to be vigilant and not to leave fires of any kind unattended.
We have seen a handful of these types of fires during the months of April and May and as we approach June, we would like to see a reduction. This will be critical in avoiding an out of control fire situation. Therefore, I am encouraging residents to avoid all unnecessary burning and if you have to do so, contact the Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service at 498-3344 for advice, so that it is done in a safe and controlled manner.
