Anguilla Community College (ACC) participates in the annual Outreach Programme of the Anguilla Litfest by providing the venue, as well as other organisational and administrative support, for its Writing Workshops. This year the ACC hosted the Adult Writing Workshops which were facilitated, over two evening sessions, by Krista Bremer, award-winning essayist, associate publisher of The Sun and author of two books – My Accidental Jihad and A Tender Struggle. Other outreach workshops that are supported by the ACC include writing and spoken-word workshops for students of the ALHCS and WISE and writing workshops for Primary Education Teachers which were held last week.
This summer sees the ACC focus on several other writing, literacy, and business and digital literacy initiatives.
For those interested in bolstering their creative writing skills, which might have been stimulated from the Litfest, the College proposes several short Master Classes covering topics as diverse as ‘How to Plot a Page Turner’ and ‘Creating Convincing Characters’.
In an entirely different genre, business writing and communication will also be offered comprising sessions on Business Writing, Making Business Presentations and Planning and Executing Effective Meetings.
The ACC is also offering targeted, customized Social Media Workshops for small business owners, and individual entrepreneurs, looking to optimize their use of social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn among others.
An entirely new addition to ACC’s Writing and Literacy initiative is a Summer Camp for Sixth Graders who will be transitioning to First Form in September. Most teachers and parents agree that children often struggle to make the adjustment between Primary and Secondary School. This Summer Camp will help sixth graders strengthen their research, literacy, and creative writing skills required to do well as they enter high school.
