Zenaida Haven, Juvenile Residential Centre (Department of Probation) wrapped up an exciting week of activities, from May 12th- 18th, which was observed under the theme “Limitations live only in our minds, the possibilities are endless”. The events were filled with fun, food, laughter and focused on celebrating the successes and achievements of the ZH team, and those who made significant contributions to the development of residential care over the past 10 years.
The week of activities commenced with a church service at the Church of God Holiness where the Minister of Social Development, – Mr. Evans McNiel Rogers; Permanent Secretary , Ms. Bonnie Richardson-Lake; Chief Probation Officer, Ms. Jocelyn Johnson; Department Heads, Supervisor, staff, residents and parents were warmly welcomed by Pastor, Philip Gumbs and other church members.
The week included a team development event held at Rendezvous Beach, Minister’s and Supervisor’s speech es which were broadcasted by Radio Anguilla, poetry rap session with Dr. Linda Banks, Community Give Back to the Senior Citizens Homes, reception at the Governor’s residence, an appearance on Social Solutions with Pastor Philip Gumbs – and concluded with our 10th Annual Family Fun Day. These activities were held in an effort to continue to strengthen the relationship of stakeholders, families and staff. In addition, it was also an opportunity to recognize persons who would have contributed to this milestone over the past ten (10) years. The week also brought greater awareness to the public about the Juvenile Residential Centre, Zenaida Haven, and the valuable work that is being done by the staff.

One of the main highlights of the 10th Anniversary celebrations was the Appreciation Reception which was hosted by Governor Tim Foy. This reception was held to honor persons who would have contributed and continue to contribute and commit to the development of the Juvenile Residential Centre. Awards were presented to previous and current Ministers of Social Development who would have had the responsibility for initiating and fostering the concept and practice of residential care under Department of Probation. The Hon. Hubert Hughes (retired), Hon. Edison Baird (retired) and Hon. Mr. Evans McNiel Rogers, Permanent Secretaries of Social Development Mr. Merwyn Foster Rogers, Mr. Orris Proctor (retired) and Dr. Bonnie Richardson-Lake, in addition to Chief Probation Officer Ms. Jocelyn Johnson, and past Supervisor Mrs. Angelina Carty, were all presented awards.

In the last ten years the staff of the Department of Probation’s Zenaida Haven – Juvenile Residential Centre – have continued to demonstrate commitment, perseverance and resilience in pursuit of high-quality residential care and excellence in our work. Despite the challenges, we continue to set a standard that speaks to the commitment and dedication of our daily roles. I take this opportunity to extend gratitude to all staff members, stakeholders, mentors, parents and other partners for their continued support for, and participation in the week of celebration. In addition, the week could not have been a success without the contributions of our generous sponsors, Sunshine Beach Shack, Anguilla Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Warren Buddle- Prickly Pear, Nagico Insurance, Cuisinart Resort and Spa, J.W. Proctor’s Supermarket, Ashley and Sons, Albert Lake Supermarket, The Big Store, Straw Hat Restaurant, Ciao Café, and Ms. Janine Edwards of Spy Glass Villa. Additionally, I wish to extend my thanks to Mr. Kenneth Hodge and Alloyd’ s for the production of the certificates and awards.
A special thanks to staff of the Centre and the Department’s Main Office. The week could not have been possible without your support.

Thanks you All!!
