The Thrift Shop sells gently used clothing, shoes, toys, housewares, books, t-shirt bags (to replace plastic bags!), appliances, books and so much more. All merchandise is gathered from generous donors and the shop itself is run solely by a group of dedicated volunteers. All donated items are carefully processed and inspected before they are placed on the rails, and sold at very reasonable prices.

Thrift shops have become extremely popular all over the world in recent years – even celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Macklemore, R&B singer Miguel, and Drew Barrymore are known to frequent them! But the main reasons to shop there are:

Support a cause
Anguilla Red Cross doesn’t do business; they have a Mandate: to save lives, protect vulnerable persons and preserve their dignity. 100% of the money raised in the Thrift Shop allows them to run different activities for the benefit of all people living in Anguilla.

? Volunteers and staff, trained in first aid, are present in all sports competitions in Anguilla, mainly involving the youth and children.
? They conduct health fairs, offering health checks or medical advice.
? They offer medical equipment on loan to those facing temporary or permanent physical disabilities.
? They prepare themselves and the community to protect against natural disasters, providing awareness and education.
? They train communities in emergency response. The Anguilla Red Cross volunteers are the first responders in case of natural disaster, distributing essential items and providing first aid and psychosocial support to the victims.

Anguilla Red Cross does all this for free, as part of their mandate. Everyone can support this mandate and contribute to Anguillan society by buying from the Thrift Shop .

Cheap and cheerful like a treasure hunt
The shop has a huge range of clothes for all ages, sizes and occasions including many well-known brands and even designer labels, at bargain prices. You never know what you are going to find, which is part of the fun of it. You almost always end up finding something awesome for a very low price. The rush is worth the digging!Buying secondhand frees up cash for other things and allows you to use family’s hard-earned income for travel or home-improvement projects in addition to your wardrobe.

Sustainable, earth-friendly fashion
The fashion industry has a massive negative impact on the environment – producing 10% of total global emissions. Synthetic fibres are non-biodegradable and sit in landfills for hundreds of years, wood-based fabrics contribute to deforestation, and the amount of water required to make one cotton t-shirt is the same as one person drinks in 2 and a half years! Buying secondhand is also good for the environment. It keeps unwanted clothing out of landfills and extends the life of perfectly usable items. Items are already there, no need of costly and polluting transportation.

Best of all, knowing that your money is going to a good cause and is helping the environment means you can shop guilt-free! So, if you like the clothes in the pictures and want to see more visit Anguilla Red Cross on Facebook where we will be regularly posting new items. Or, even better, come to the shop on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays between 9am-1pm.
