Saturday 30th March, Magic City was abuzz with excitement as the Rotary Club of Anguilla inducted 120 enthused students, and chartered 4 primary schools, in its first ever joint EarlyAct Charter and Induction ceremony. The festive atmosphere was a kaleidoscope of colours as the many clubs were represented in their club colours.
EarlyAct is a service club for primary school students which provides young students the opportunity for gaining an increased awareness and knowledge of their community and the world. At a young age, all students can easily be encouraged to be caring and helpful. Their minds are open to recognize the dignity and worth of each individual which builds respect for others. EarlyAct also engages students in character-building activities and prepares them for leadership roles to identify and carry out projects which benefit their school, local and global communities.
In the opening address, Youth Service Director, Rotarian Karl Woodley, stated “tonight culminates weeks of planning by teachers and Rotary advisors, and we at Rotary are extremely happy to bring the youth together in one area”.
President of the Rotary Club of Anguilla, Rotarian Carolyn Richardson-Hodge, in her brief remarks, expressed her appreciation to the many persons who played key roles in making the event possible. Mrs. Richardson-Hodge applauded the young students and encouraged them in service as EaryActors.
Assistant District Governor, Marcellia Henry from St. Maarten, joined the Ceremony and also brought congratulatory greetings from the Rotary’s District 7020 Governor, Patrick Adizua, from Jamaica. ADG Marcellia stated that the world needs more EarlyActors, and encouraged the students to take the lead to become a catalyst for change in their communities by doing their part to help make the world a better place.
The clubs being chartered were from the Alwyn Allison Richardson Primary School, The Valley Primary School, the Orealia Kelly Primary School and the Adrian T Hazell Primary School. The schools were each presented with a charter certificate and the students were all presented with membership certificates.
The event was well attended by parents, family, friends, well-wishers, members of the Interact Club of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School and members of the first EarlyAct Club from the Vivien Vanterpool Primary School, now in their third chartered year.
