Ms. Jeritza Samuel, an alumna of the Anguilla Community College, is passionate about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related subjects, and is making her career in that field. She is the Technical Services Coordinator at ANGLEC and, by choosing to follow what many consider a non-traditional career path for women, Jeritza is a beacon for young people and especially young women to step out of their comfort zones and challenge themselves with education and training.
The first course she ever took at the ACC was when it was still the Community College Development Unit (CCDU), and the course was in Energy Conservation and Plant Maintenance. At that time, Jeritza had already achieved her Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering but was looking for opportunities to test herself and continue her professional and personal development. Over the years Ms. Samuel has been a keen alumna, taking a wide range of courses at the ACC including two technical qualifications in Electrical Installation and Basic Motor Vehicle Repair and Maintenance – both awarded by the prestigious City and Guilds.
While attending the ACC, Ms. Samuel enjoyed the ease with which she could engage in one-on-one con-versations with the staff. She regularly took time to meet with lecturers and advisors to learn about the programmes offered, and how they could help her to achieve her goals. “It was refreshing to be able to enroll in programmes that weren’t gender biased, and it also proved that my success at the college wasn’t based on whether I was male or female, but on how good of a student I was”, Jeritza explained.
Jeritza’s achievements are not only academic. She is community focused and a member of the Rotary Club where she hopes to assume the role of president this year; and the Ambassador Pathfinder Club, of which she has been a member for over 20 years.
Ms. Samuel encourages persons, particularly those interested in the technical field, to take advantage of the opportunities the Anguilla Community College offers locally, saying, “The skills learned at the college are invaluable as they not only prepare you for real life experiences, but the workforce.”
Jeritza Samuel endorses and supports the ACC “Building People, Community, Nation!”
