On Friday April 5th, Chief Probation Officer, Ms. Jocelyn Johnson and Supervisor Ms. Yoshida Gumbs, along with staff, were pleased to welcome Governor Foy on his first visit to the Department of Probation’s residential facility, Zenaida Haven.
During the visit Governor Foy benefited from a tour of the Centre where much of the operations were explained. The small garden project, being maintained by residents as part of the Centre’s Grow It, Eat It agricultural plan, was also described as an initiative which is geared at teaching residents skills beyond gardening. The individual approach taken to work with each resident was explained in some detail, as well as the importance of community links to support the Centre’s initiatives. Additionally, Governor Foy was also able to meet with, and talk to, several of the residents.
This year marks 10 years of residential care in Anguilla. Therefore, as management and staff of the Department prepare to observe this milestone, in a few weeks, both Ms. Johnson and Ms. Gumbs were pleased with the level of interest and understanding at the need for such interventions, particularly for young people, expressed by Governor Foy.
We certainly look forward to welcoming him again.
