The Anguilla Amateur Athletic Association has announced a team of 4 athletes and 2 officials to represent Anguilla at the 48th annual CARIFTA Games.
The Games will be held in the Cayman Islands over the upcoming Easter weekend from April 20th to 22nd. The Anguilla team departed on Wednesday, April 17th, and will return on Tuesday, April 23rd.
The team comprises 2 female athletes, T-Kailah Richardson and Akoyah Phillips, and 2 male athletes, Saymon Rijo and Teron Webster. The athletes will be accompanied by Mr. Rollins Richardson as Coach and Mrs. Pamela Serrant-Fleming as Team Manager.
This year all of the athletes will participate in sprint events.
T-Kailah will be competing in both the 100 and 200m event in the Under 20s, while Akoyah will compete in the same 2 events but in the Under 17 category.
Saymon and Teron will both compete in the 100 and 200m events but in the Under 20 and Under 17 categories respectively.
What is particularly pleasing about the team is that all 4 athletes have met the Association’s selection standards. This has not always been the case. However, the Association strongly feels that with the other islands expressing their intention to focus on quality athletes rather than quantity, we too must be demanding better performances if our athletes are to be competitive with their peers regionally and internationally.
We expect that our athletes will represent Anguilla well, and we wish them the very best as they strive to develop athletically.
As always, the Association extends its appreciation to all who have assisted it and who continue to do so, but in particular the coaches, athletes, parents, officials, the general public and the Department of Sports.
