Author, songwriter and poet, Patricia J. Adams, has released a sequel to her first novel Blue Beans which was published in 2016 by Emmanuel Publishing House of Dominica.
This new book entitled Yellow Dad is set in Anguilla in the late 1960’s and features Anguillian people as well as its food, feasts, religion, dress, geographical and historical sites and other aspects of its culture.
Teacher Patsy, who has taught for almost two decades, is acutely aware that there is very little Caribbean literature featuring Anguilla, Anguillians or their way of life, and she thought it necessary to seal that void by writing fictional books about her native land. The entire novel is written in Anguilla’s first language and is filled with proverbs and other sayings that were spoken by our forebears. This is Teacher Patsy’s second novel, but she has penned dozens of songs and is the author of three anthologies Windows to Yesteryear, A Gift of Fire and A Jewel Made of Sand. In 2017 she published a dictionary of Anguillian proverbs, words and idioms entitled Mouthspeeches.
The colourful front and back covers of Yellow Dad feature the native yellow dad parasite and was photographed by Mr. Ivor Hodge. The book will be launched at a cultural concert at Magic City early next month.
