Governor of the Caribbean District of Junior Optimist International, 17- year old Tiandra Carty, has recently added to her long and growing list of accomplishments as a young leader. She returned to the island on Sunday 10 March, after several days in Kingston, Jamaica on Optimist duty – a trip which she describes enthusiastically as “a very rewarding experience!”. Governor Tiandra left Anguilla on Wednesday 6 March to attend the Caribbean District’s 2nd Quarter Convention where she participated in the District’s Executive Board meeting, representing the more than 15 Junior Optimist Clubs of the Caribbean District.
She also delivered remarks at the opening ceremony on Friday 8 March, facilitated a Junior Optimists team building workshop, on Saturday 9 March, and attended the awards banquet on Saturday night. While there she was able to enjoy some site-seeing around Kingston and its environs, including trips to Reach Falls and Reggae Falls.
Earlier this year, Governor Tiandra, in a novel initiative of the Optimist Club of Anguilla, conducted the installation of the 2019 – 2020 Executive Board of the Club. This is the first time in the history of the Caribbean District that a Junior Optimist Governor had the responsibility of conducting an official installation ceremony of an adult Club’s board of directors. Additionally, one of the Board Member, Oscar Derby, who lives in Jamaica, took his oath of office, via Skype, another first for the Caribbean District. As part of the ceremony, she was given the responsibility of inducting two new members, Nordisia Lake and Chanice Hilliman, both former Junior Optimists members, into the Optimist Club of Anguilla.
