Anguilla, which has made a swift recovery from Hurricane Irma and has been dubbed “best island in the Caribbean” for the two consecutive years of 2017 and 2018, by the readers of Travel & Leisure, is substantially benefitting from that title.
The above world-renowned magazine, said to have a readership of 29 million, is highly regarded as a credible source of travel information and is a much sought after publication by discerning travelers to tourism destinations.
Anguilla’s Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Tourism, Mr. Cardigan Connor, speaking to The Anguillian newspaper, described the island as a destination of choice. He was at the time commenting on the Presidents’ Holiday weekend in the United States which saw a sizeable number of private executive jets flying visitors to and from the island’s Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport.
He said not only was the airport in Anguilla a busy scene over the past several days, but that was also the case at the Anguilla seaport terminal in Simpson Bay, Dutch St./ Maarten, through which many United States visitors made their way to Anguilla for the holiday period.
Mr. Connor expressed much delight that the holiday event had given a boost to tourism in Anguilla resulting in a number of hotels and villas benefiting from the arriving guests.
He added that the many private jets, parked on the airport’s northern ramp, operated by Lloyd’s Aviation Services, also gave passersby, particularly visitors, a good indication that tourism in Anguilla had recovered with the island back in business as a destination of choice.
