As part of its 2019 Police Week of Activities, the Royal Anguilla Police Force hosted its annual senior citizens’ lunch at Police Headquarters on Thursday, January 31st. This was the third such event of its kind, with musical entertainment provided by Mr. Kingsley “Power” Richardson.
Spearheading the organizing of the luncheon was RAPF’s Woman Constable #37, Ms. Sherrie Brooks. She acknowledged how gratified she felt to be so instrumental in playing such an important role as entertaining the seniors at a sumptuous lunch. Ms. Brooks remarked: “As we celebrate our 47th year of Police Week, I have been looking forward to this time. Every year, I anticipate this event so that I can play my part in making preparations for the seniors lunch, which always falls on the Thursday of Police Week.
“This is a very exciting moment in time for me. I am always overwhelmed, and I get much pleasure in doing the preparations – and then seeing to it that every aspect of the luncheon falls properly into place.”
Ms. Brooks said that she is always appreciative of those persons, and companies, in the community who contribute to making the event possible each year.
When asked what method she uses to make contact with the seniors to inform them of the lunch, she responded: “Public awareness of the luncheon is usually done via an announcement over radio. We also send invitations to several churches as well, and certain officers would take invitations to the elderly in the various villages. It is a feeling of accomplishment for me to see the elderly, and the not so elderly, come together and have lunch in the company of police officers who are here to serve them and protect them.”
Ms. Brooks said that this was the second year of engaging students to serve the seniors. She observed: “Juniors serving seniors is a very admirable act. It is a joy to see the youngsters serving the elderly in an atmosphere of love, respect and honor. I am sure this will serve to motivate them to excel and stay in school — realizing that sometime in the future they too will become a senior. ”
Commissioner of Police, Paul Morrison, stated that he was pleased with the ambiance of another luncheon. “It is always a pleasure to have you, as seniors, come and to share with the Royal Anguilla Police Force over a meal once every year.” He noted, “I am a senior citizen myself, and I just love to see the spread of age across this hall. I hope you enjoy the lunch and the music, and I would like you to know that it is our good pleasure to have you here today.”
Constable Sherrie Brooks expressed gratitude to the following persons, and businesses, who contributed to making the event another remarkable success:
DLG Engineering Ltd.; JARD Holidays Ltd.; Bonfinesse; Lloyd’s Aviation Services; Dole Vita Restaurant; Ashley & Sons; The Big Store; Tropical Distributors; Paramount Pharmacy; Mingz Supermarket; Flavors Restaurant; Best But Supermarket; Madeariman Restaurant; Merchants Market; Beauty Mark; and Trevor Lake.
Ms. Brooks wishes to also thank her team, and supporters in the Force who worked so diligently with her in making the 3rd Police Week Senior Citizens’ Luncheon the success that is was.
