On 19 February 2019, HE the Governor Tim Foy hosted a bi-lateral meeting with a delegation from French St Martin led by Mme la Prefete Sylvie Feucher. The main focus of discussions centred on ways in which improvements can be made by sharing information and co-operation between the two jusrisdictions.
The fight against gun crime and the movement of criminal elements between the islands is a top priority for authorities in both Anguilla and French St Martin and the discussions resulted in several agreements concerning the exchange of information between the Royal Anguilla Police Force, the Police aux Frontieres and the Gendarmerie.
Another major focus of the talks concerned maritime co-operation and obligation both islands have to fully embrace international maritime standards at the ports and on vessels at sea. The meeting noted the progress on the operational improvements currently taking place at the ports of Marigot and Blowing Point which highlight Anguilla – St Martin co-operation. A very positive outcome of the meeting was the agreement in principle by the French Prefecture to support the resumption of a night ferry service between the Marigot and Blowing point. Although there is still much to be done, we hope to be able to share positive news on the night ferry in the coming weeks.
