The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Anguilla welcomed the latest batch of local students for its online programmes at a special Orientation Session at the Site on Wednesday 9th January. Some thirty-two (32) of the forty-six (46) applicants for Semester Two 2018/2019 are expected to officially begin their studies on 21st January. The majority of the new students are enrolled in the full-time programmes, while some are taking advantage of the “Special Admissions” opportunity to enrol in selected online courses.
On hand to welcome the new students were Manager for the UWI Open Campus British Overseas Territories, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks, local Site Staff, Ms. Tesia Harrigan, Mrs. Arlene Brown-Richardson and Ms. Patricia Bryan, as well Student Guild Executive Members, Ms. Kemoloy Murphy, Mrs. Charlene Roach and Ms. Melissa Harrigan.
The admission of this new cohort follows the graduation of some twenty-one (21) students last October and will further increase the number of active students at the local arm of the University. Last semester, UWI Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal of the Open Campus, Dr. Luz Longsworth, announced that the Anguilla Site had the highest per capita registration in the UWI Open Campus in the Eastern Caribbean. In praise of the local team during her visit in November, PVC Longsworth noted that in addition to the over 500% increase in online student numbers, over the last three years, the Anguilla Site boasts a large and growing student enrolment in its local Continuing and Professional Development programmes.
Semester Two at the UWI Open Campus began on 3rd January with online orientation and registration. The local on site workforce professional development programmes will begin during the week of 28th January.
