Following a successful re-opening last month, Malliouhana, an Auberge Resort, has undertaken the proactive approach of organising a fire prevention training session – for its employees – focused on ‘Fire Extinguisher Education and Awareness.’ The productive training session was held on Thursday, January 10th, 2019 at the luxury resort and was aptly delivered by Anguilla Multifaceted Professional Security Services (AMPSS). AMPSS is security firm offering a comprehensive line of security and investigation services including sales, servicing and maintenance of fire extinguishers, private investigations, pre-employment background checks, security protection and fire prevention training to customers in its targeted market.
The goal of the fire prevention training was to provide staff with the information and knowledge necessary to recognise, control and eliminate the causes of fires and fire hazards – and ultimately ensure the prevention of loss of life and property by fire.
The session comprised three main components. The first was an informative session delivered by Mr. Hubert Hughes, President of AMPSS, where employees learnt about the different classifications of fires, when and how to use the different types of fire extinguishers, the rules for fighting fires and the types of agents utilised for extinguishing fires. The second component was a practical exercise which allowed employees the opportunity to demonstrate fire extinguisher use on a small fire (within a designated burnt area). The final component was a short online examination certified by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Employees who successfully completed the test were issued an OSHA accredited certificate.
Approximately fifty (55) employees of Malliouhana, an Auberge Resort, were trained in the first phase with the remaining staff to be trained by the end of the first quarter of 2019. Throughout the session, participants were actively engaged, listening intently, asking insightful questions and enthusiastically participating in the practical exercise.
Upon completion of the first phase of the fire prevention training, Mr. Eduardo Urquiza, Director of Engineering at Malliouhana, an Auberge Resort, expressed his satisfaction with the skills, expertise and level of training provided by the AMPSS team. He stressed that, “the safety and security of our team members and guests are our highest priority at Malliouhana, an Auberge Resort. Workplace safety and prevention training like these are invaluable. The more knowledgeable staff is about workplace safety, security and procedures, the better able they will be to mitigate and reduce harmful risks to themselves and others.” He further added that the employees were quite content with the training, and were fully committed to using their new -found knowledge to ensure a safe environment for themselves and guests of the luxury resort.
Mr. Hubert Hughes, President/CEO of AMPSS, shared his pleasure with being able to offer such vital training to one of Anguilla’s flagship hotels. He expressed his gratitude to the management of Malliouhana, an Auberge Resort, for the opportunity to share his passion and expertise in the field of safety and security – as well as for recognizing the importance of such training in the workplace. He further emphasized that, “Fires don’t just happen. They are caused by lack of training, lack of persons following proper procedures, lack of maintenance of equipment (particularly electrical equipment) and a lack of understanding of fire hazards within our work/home environments. The employees trained today are very fortunate as they can apply the knowledge learnt not only to their workplace but also to their personal lives and safety. Going forward, we will continue to work with Malliouhana, an Auberge Resort to provide more training and safety equipment in support of their aim to continuously improve health and safety in the workplace.”
