Mr. Tiago Sarmento, the highly-acclaimed General Manager at Belmond Cap Juluca for overseeing the very impressive refurbishing and expansion of the property, has given a detailed explanation of the work that was carried out. It was done over the past 18 months.
Speaking to The Anguillian newspaper on Monday, December 10, the day of the grand opening of the re-imagined resort, Mr. Sarmento had this to say:
“Belmond Cap Juluca is opening with 108 guestrooms and has expanded its culinary concepts. Today is a very special day as we reopen this legacy resort. We will be offering four culinary concepts in an amazing Italian restaurant named after our Cipriani Hotel in Venice. We are very proud to keep Pimms as our best, and mostly-named, restaurant in Anguilla to offer Anguillian and Caribbean delights. We have also brought our Belmond legacy from Peru where Belmond owns seven properties and a railroad. And we are very proud to bring our best chef from Peru to lead the Peruvian concept at Maundays Club in the Main House.
“Lastly, and not the least, the Cap Shack, located on the west end of the bay, provides direct access for all Anguillians to come and enjoy Maundays Bay; and for our guests to enjoy a full luxury experience.
“We are the first and only to offer host or butler service across all of the resort – and our Host Team, led by Kevin Carty, will give an extremely personalized and bespoke service to all of our guests.
“We are very proud and happy to be here today and to sign the page in a new chapter of Cap Juluca.”
Asked to comment further on Belmond Cap Juluca, Mr. Sarmento stated: “We have built five new guestroom buildings and we have also merged some guestrooms in the existing buildings. The size was not to the quality and the standards of Belmond. We have increased the number of rooms from 67 to 108.”
He spoke to The Anguillian newspaper at the newly-constructed Events Pavilion which provides an arresting and open view of the Maundays Bay area, and the line of refurbished villas and facilities across the bay.
Mr. Sarmento explained that, apart from the view of Maundays Bay, the Events Pavilion “offers an area for special events like this, the New Year’s Eve, family gatherings, weddings and any other special events.”
