Cheque Presentation – L-R; Jeritza Samuel -Rotary President Elect, Carolyn Richardson-Hodge – Rotary President, David Gumbs – ANGLEC CEO, Jacquie Ruan – Rotary Immediate Past President

In keeping with its commitment to serve Anguilla, the Anguilla Electricity Company Ltd. (ANGLEC) is pleased to announce the recent partnership with the Rotary Club of Anguilla, to build an elevator system for physically challenged students attending the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School (ALHCS) Campus B.
“The Rotary Club of Anguilla is proud to partner with ANGLEC to install an Elevator Lift at the ALHCS Campus B.
ANGLEC, a great Corporate Sponsor, exhibits what Rotarians worldwide practice daily, providing humanitarian and educational assistance to those in need. Your generous donation will help the Rotary Club of Anguilla complete this vital project for our students.” (Carolyn Richardson–Hodge, Rotary President.)
With the recent implementation of the shift system for high school students post Hurricane Irma, students of all educational and physical abilities now attend ALHCS at the Campus B building. An unexpected change of this nature requires broad commitment from the community to ensure that the needs of all students are met as Anguilla’s educational system works to rebound. Every student, regardless of the circumstance must be given every opportunity afforded to their peers.
It is for this reason that the Rotary Club of Anguilla is building a bridge between the ALHCS and the community to ensure that students, with various physical challenges, entering the Campus B building are met with the structural accommodations required to support their successful matriculation through the system. Having the elevator onsite would ensure students can access every classroom or space at both levels of the Campus B building. Fortunately, the design of the school was made in such a way that the necessary structural improvements can be easily accommodated. There is already an elevator shaft, a ramp, a handicap bathroom and a sick bay on the premises. And now, through the support of various private agencies and community organizations, and companies like ANGLEC, the additional services and resources are being sourced and funded, but there is still work to be done.
The required resources to be installed include an elevator, railings, and ramps within the compound. It is vital to secure the additional financial assistance necessary for this initiative.
“ANGLEC is happy to contribute to this initiative because of what is means for the lives of our students. The Rotary Club of Anguilla is doing great work to ensure this worthy cause is not lost in the hustle and bustle of recovery post Irma. Seeing their commitment should make us all pause and take account of our privilege despite the challenges we face. Many hands make light work and we encourage others to find out more about this initiative and join in our pledge to support Rotary and raise awareness around opportunities to make meaningful contributions to our educational system.” (David Gumbs, ANGLEC CEO.)
For more information on how you or your organization can make a contribution to the elevator system installation at Campus B please contact Rotary President, Carolyn Richardson-Hodge via carolynaxa@hotmail.com or Rotary Area Coordinator for Service Projects, Seymour Hodge via (264) 476-3574 or email sahodge0@msn.com.
