Ministry of Health & Social Development Welcomes Appointment of Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Olufunmike Banks-Devonish

Dr. Olufunmike Banks-Devonish assumed the post of Clinical Psychologist with the Ministry of Health & Social Development on 1st November 2018. Dr. Banks-Devonish is the first full time Clinical Psychologist to be employed by the Anguilla Public Service.

Dr. Olufunmike Banks-Devonish obtained her Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Psychology at Trent University in Ontario, Canada in 2012. She then went on to receive her Master of Arts degree in Applied Clinical Psychology at the Pennsylvania State University in the United States in 2015. Most recently, Dr Banks-Devonish has become a qualified Clinical Psychologist after successfully completing the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology programme at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
In addition to gaining experience in different countries, Dr Banks-Devonish had the opportunity to work with different populations in both community and inpatient settings. She has provided psychological services to children, adolescents and their families, adults, older adults, individuals with learning disabilities and forensic populations. Through her experiences with these populations, she has been able to develop her skills for working with a range of difficulties and clinical presentations, including: depression, anxiety, phobias, trauma and abuse, psychosis, personality disorders, eating disorders and dementia.
Dr Banks-Devonish has also conducted three research projects during her time in university. She studied the perinatal and postnatal experiences of Caribbean families living in Canada, experiences of homesickness among international students, and the impact of impulsivity and negative consequences of alcohol use on drinking behavior among young adult males.
In her post as Clinical Psychologist with the Ministry of Health & Social Development, Dr. Banks-Devonish will work across departments and Ministries providing psychological services to children and adults. The Ministry of Health & Social Development welcomes Dr. Banks-Devonish to the team and looks forward to being able to provide clinical psychology services to our clients.
