The Hon. Curtis Richardson, Minister of Infrastructure, had been tasked again with distributing essential items to needy members of the community.
During the month of September Minister Richardson had personally contributed a great quantity of school supplies to primary school students on the island, but lately he was called upon to assist a local company, Ship Spark & Paridigm Solutions, in distributing goodwill items which were sent to that company for the people of Anguilla who would have been in need of them.
The Minister reports: “Recently, the CEO of Ship Spark, Mr. Enrick Harrigan, called me and stated that his company had been sent a large quantity of humanitarian supplies by a benevolent company in the United States. He said that these items were in the Sandy Ground warehouse for many months and it was rather difficult to clear them and to have them distributed.
“I told him that since he was encountering such a struggle, I would take it upon myself, as a Minister of Government, to work out something with customs so that the commodities could be released. I therefore wrote a relevant letter to the Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Travis Carty, and arrangements were made by the Ship Spark’s Accountant, Mrs. Valencia Liddie-Cox, and the Customs Office for releasing the goods into my care.
“I had to satisfy the Customs Department that I would do a full public complimentary distribution of these items, confirming that they were not to be for sale or that they were not to be released to me for any personal gain.”
Minister Richardson said that the items included wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, porter-potties and a variety of school supplies. The health-aid items were distributed to the four senior citizens’ homes on the island and the school supplies were issued to Campus B and two primary schools.
Mr. Richardson further remarked, “I wished to thank Mrs. Valencia Liddie-Cox and Ms. Renelda Dore who worked along with me on behalf of Ship Spark & Paradigm. I also wish to commend Mr. Enrick Harrigan for being the worthy recipient of these supplies and for having the insight for their efficient distribution.”
The Minister noted that, according to Ship Spark, they will be receiving more items of aid for the people of Anguilla in the future, and he has promised to assist again in a similar manner with customs clearance and distribution.
