On Monday, October 29th, Mr. Donald Curtis, Manager of the local Medical Air Services Association (MASA), was delighted to make a presentation of fire safety items to the firefighting team at the Clayton J. Lloyd Airport. The items were donated on behalf of MASA and consisted of 50 smoke detectors, 10 carbon dioxide detectors, and 4 fire blankets.

In accepting the donations, Mr. Carlisle Lake, Crew Manager and Fire Inspector, expressed much thanks to Mr. Curtis and MASA stating: “We intend to install these in the homes of senior citizens as well as heath care centers. We will get a list of persons who are aged, and not so able, and we will install especially the smoke detectors in their homes. And we have planned to do this immediately. We had wished to do this distribution during Fire Prevention Week, but due to the recent hurricane, in Miami, shipping was delayed. We realize that the key places to target to help promote fire safety are insurance companies. Obviously, if an insurance company would like to insure your home against fire, it would want to see smoke detectors in it. So that is why we thought it fitting to approach MASA …”
Mr. Curtis remarked: “When personnel from the Fire Department approached me and explained that they had a dire need for these items, we were happy to come on board because we considered it a great project. We had donated some of the smoke alarm systems for the pre-schools, and we found that making this donation to the Fire Department was something good to do. The fire fighters are some of our best members. They are good supporters of MASA and so we are happy to support them as well.”

Mr. Curtis confirmed that this was only the beginning of a closer working relationship with the Fire Department, and that MASA would offer fire fighters whatever assistance it can in the future.
