The Anguilla Social Security Board established the Social Security Development Fund in 1986 for the purpose of funding socially desirable projects. It is funded by 3.75% of the contribution income and a percentage of investment income based on balance of reserves including the Development Fund Reserve at the end of the preceding year. In 2005 the Social Security Board created an Endowment Fund where once available $250,000.00 is transferred from the SSDF to that Fund each year to build an endowment whereby the Fund will eventually be able to sustain itself and fund projects from the interest generated by endowment. At the end of 2017, the Endowment Fund stands at $2,550,000.
Over the years the Board has supported a number of projects including tennis through the Anguilla Tennis Academy, basketball, cricket, environmental initiatives, creative arts, music development including Jazz Festivals and steel pan, education, HIV/AIDS awareness, youth development, development of health facilities and support of health initiatives.
The Anguilla Social Security Board has put out its 1st “Call for Projects” dated November 1, 2018.
