In January 2019, the Anguilla Community College (ACC) will launch its new, single-unit BTEC Awards in Business. BTEC is the trade name for the Business and Technology and Education Council which is based in the United Kingdom, and offers qualifications with both academic and vocational currency that are globally recognised and benchmarked.
BTEC programmes typically consist of several modules or units that qualify successful candidates in a broad subject area. However, with the single-unit option, there is greater flexibility to learn skills that apply to a specific topic. According to ACC Senior Lecturer and Business Programme Coordinator, Ms Annishka White, “The beauty of the single unit award is that it allows individuals to gain knowledge and competencies in areas of need that may be relevant to them performing their job functions and further development”.
The three single-unit awards that the ACC will offer are Managing a Business Event, Business Law and Management Accounting. Managing a Business Event will teach participants how to plan and execute a successful business event. Business Law will focus on the Legal Framework in which businesses must operate, and will give participants an opportunity to undertake real world analysis of the Anguillian and International environment.
According to Ms Pamela Gumbs, Finance Officer at the ACC, just about any manager or business executive would benefit from Management Accounting because it will assist them to understand the budgeting process, what drives business costs and how to interpret financial statements.
Dr Karl Dawson, President of the ACC, summarized the BTEC single-unit awards in this way: “BTEC single-unit awards are part of the College’s effort to vary how educational and training content is packaged and delivered to meet the needs of the community. Single-unit business awards do not call for a long-term commitment. Participants can complete the unit in a single semester.”
Persons interested in these courses should contact the ACC at its offices at George Hill or call (264) 498-8395 / 476-8395 or info@acc.edu.ai. at the college.
