Just over three months after opening its doors, The Wellness Centre Multipurpose Facility, in The Farrington, is fulfilling its mission to empower the seniors in the Anguillian community to build their entrepreneurial skills with the opening of Kaiya’s Kitchen featuring hospitality veteran, Ms. Daphine Rogers.
Kaiya is the granddaughter of Marilyn and Kenneth Hodge, owners of the Wellness Centre, and the youngest granddaughter of Daphine Rogers.
Daphine’s foray in the hospitality industry spans some 40 plus years. She began cooking at age 14 in her father’s kitchen at Lloyds Guest House, at Crocus Hill, and later at Pineapple Annies at Corito. In later years she also worked in the kitchens at Covecastles, Riveria, CuisinArt and Viceroy as well as with Frangipani Catering.
She is wellknown throughout the length and breadth of Anguilla as an accomplished cook, and her cooking skills are featured at many functions and other events.
Two of her sons have followed in her footsteps – Kerth Gumbs who is the celebrated Head Chef at Ormer Mayfair in the United Kingdom; and Dion Rogers who currently works as a bartender at Four Seasons.
Kaiya’s Kitchen will open its doors on Saturday October 20th, 2018 at The Wellness Centre Multipurpose Facility, and will initially operate every Saturday thereafter between the hours of 11:30 am to 5:00 pm. Menu offerings will include cultural foods of yesteryear such as fungi and fish, rice and peas, pea soup, white dumplings/conkie dumplings and saltfish or mackerel, whelks and conchs as well as more contemporary dishes such as chicken, goat, pork and oxtail.
Local drinks such as Sorrel, Ginger Beer, Passion Fruit, Mauby, Lemonade and Tamarind, and other drinks offerings, will be available for sale.
Senior citizens over the age of 70 will be eligible for a 10% discount when they purchase food at Kaiya’s Kitchen.
The Wellness Centre invites the general public to support Ms. Daphine Rogers as she expands her cooking experiences through Kaiya’s Kitchen.
