The Inter-Primary Schools’ Football Tournament, sponsored by the National Commercial Bank of Anguilla (NCBA), commenced on Wednesday evening, October 17, on the grounds of the Raymond E. Guishard Technical Centre.
Acting Chief Education Officer, Ms. Sandra Fahie, highlighted three things that the participating students in the competition would benefit from. The first is respect for their coaches, teammates and for themselves; the second, long lasting and genuine friendships; and the third, the development of leadership skills.
“This year, as I understand it, marks the 29th year of football competition among our primary schools students,” Ms. Fahie continued. “The gratitude of the Department of Education is on record for the National Bank of Anguilla for its sponsorship over the years. However, we want to express our appreciation to the National Commercial Bank of Anguilla for this, its third year of sponsorship; and the Anguilla Football Association for its efforts over the years at ensuring that this football competition continues.
She told the students that they had practiced hard, but her advice to them was to play harder over the coming weeks.
Speaking on behalf of NCBA, Mrs. Cherecia Lewis-Rogers said it was the Bank’s distinct pleasure to partner with the Anguilla Football Association in sponsoring the Primary Schools’ Football Tournament for the third consecutive year. “Over the years, there have been major developments and accomplishments within the League and we are extremely pleased to offer our support for the continued development of the League,” she stated. “NCBA strongly believes that participation and competition, such as the Primary Schools Football Tournament, instil qualities within our youth which will set the stage for their attainment of even greater successes in the future.”
