Caribbean Wellness Day 2018 activities concluded on Friday 28th September 2018 with a big health fair at the St. Mary’s Church grounds, The Valley. It was remarkable to see the large turnout especially men who were eager get their health checks. The Caribbean Wellness Day Committee would like to thank the sponsors, facilitators and public for the success of Caribbean Wellness Day activities 2018.
Caribbean Wellness Day focused on adults, the theme being Healthy Communities: Preserving the Workforce. It urged individuals to be healthy, stay healthy…It’s your job! During the Caribbean Wellness activities a strong appeal went out to men, 40 years and older, to get their prostate examination as the month of September was also Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
During Caribbean Wellness several other activities were recognized including World Physiotherapy Day and the launch of Know Your Numbers Campaign by doctors of the Health Authority of Anguilla.
Caribbean Wellness Day is an annual event which provides an opportunity to increase the awareness of the serious burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs); to mobilise and strengthen public, private, and civil society partnerships for NCDs; and to showcase national and community level activities to promote healthy living.
A special thanks to the Medical Air Services Association (MASA) which, for the past six years, has contributed to sponsoring the health checks conducted at the annual health fair. The checks include Prostate Specific Antigen, Cholesterol, Blood Sugar, Pap Smears and foot care.
