A number of young people in Anguilla were inducted to serve in separate leadership roles at a reception at Government House on Monday evening, October 1. The event was Caribbean Youth Day organized by the Ministry and Department of Youth and Culture as part of National Youth Week.
Governor Tim Foy, OBE, and his wife, Dr. Dina Foy, hosted the well-attended reception. “It is a great pleasure to host the Fourth Annual Caribbean Youth Celebration and other events taking place throughout the week,” the Governor said. “This reception provides an important opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of young people throughout the region, particularly in Anguilla – as well as to recognize the work of Youth Services. I think it is important to recognize the people who actually work along with the youth organizations. This is important to empower young people. It is also a time to congratulate Anguilla’s new Youth Ambassadors Corps, the new Caricom Youth Ambassadors and the newly-elected Executive of the Anguilla Youth Council.”
Governor Foy, who presented the instruments of appointment to the youngsters, stated that this year’s Youth Week was especially important as a new National Youth Policy for Anguilla was in the course of preparation. He was pleased to be associated with Youth Week as he and his wife have a passion for working with young people. He hoped that those appointed to serve would become role models for other Anguillian youth.
Mrs. Evalie Bradley, Ministerial Assistant in the Ministry of Home Affairs, observed that “good will always overcome evil in Anguilla because there is too much goodness and too much promise in our young people that Anguilla can have hope of a better, prosperous and brighter future for all.”
Mrs. Bradley recognised that the various youth leaders in Anguilla were working passionately for the betterment and advancement of young people, and that the only beneficiary of their hard work was Anguilla. “We therefore applaud your efforts and wish you every success in all your endeavors,” she added.
The new Youth Ambassadors, Caricom Ambassadors, the President of the National Youth Council, Mr. Neil Gumbs, and the members of the Council, were inducted by Governor Foy and Mr. Bren Romney, Director of Youth and Culture.
