Anguilla has gained a considerable amount of publicity from hosting a two-day Workshop on “Innovation for Tourism Growth” held at La Vue Boutique Inn on October 11-12. It was organised by the Overseas Countries and Territories Association (OCTA).
The event was attended by representatives of twenty Overseas Countries and Territories in the Caribbean, the Atlantic and Pacific regions. “It was aimed at enhancing sustainable development through innovative solutions for economic diversification and improving the regional and global competiveness of the Overseas Countries and Territories,” the agenda stated.
Speaking at the plenary session, Anguilla’s Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, Mr. Victor Banks, said in part: “I would like to extend to the OCTA group our sincere gratitude for giving us this opportunity to have destination Anguilla as the island for this event – ‘Innovation for Tourism Growth’. The conference has the stated objective of enhancing sustainable development through innovative solutions and the improvement of global competiveness of the Overseas Countries and Territories. We are grateful to have you here and I am confident that you will facilitate these goals in your deliberations.”
Other persons from Anguilla, who participated in the workshop in one way or another, included Mrs. Shellya Rogers-Webster, Manager of Corporate Affairs with the Anguilla Tourist Board, who spoke on “The Importance of Standards in Tourism Sector”; Ms. Gina Brooks, Tourism Planner in the Ministry of Tourism; Mr. Chris Richardson, of Rich Pearl Global Training, Coaching and Consultancy Group, who spoke on “Marrying Tradition and Innovation in Customer Service”; Mr. Kenroy Herbert, Proprietor, Leviticus Lifestyle, whose topic was: “Diversification of our Tourism Product through Innovation and Networking”; Mr. Davon Carty, of British Dependency, who spoke on “Marketing via our Creatives”; Mr. Bren Romney, Anguilla Innovation Director, who spoke on “Innovate Anguilla”; Mrs. Janine Edwards, Co-Proprietor, Sunset Homes & Representative of the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association, Tourism and Innovation; and Ms. Trudy Nixon, of True Anguilla Magazine, who spoke on “Innovation as a Catalyst for Product Diversification.”
