Schools around the island are hitting preparations into overdrive this week as they try to ensure that their environments are safe and ready for Anguilla’s children who will be returning to school on September 3. As part of these preparations, the Anguilla Fire and Rescue Team rendered much needed assistance to Orealia Kelly Primary School (OKPS) by clearing hazardous debris from the school’s auditorium.

The school’s auditorium was one of the severely damaged public structures as a result of last year’s Hurricane Irma. The devastating storm left internal fixtures of the school’s auditorium damaged, and what was left of the roof was hanging treacherously over the exposed space. The auditorium was deemed unsafe and unfit for use.

The principal and staff of Orealia Kelly Primary School extend a hearty thank you to the Fire and Rescue Team with special mention of Chief Fire Officer, Mr. Shondell Hodge, who responded promptly to the clean-up request. Gratitude is also extended to Sub-Officer, Mr. Donovan Bryan, leading fire fighters Mr. Carlisle Lake and Mr. Lenard James; and assisting fire officers Craig Emmanuel, Kurtne Patterson and Me-quan Reid. A huge thank you is extended to the school’s PTA president, Mr. Nigel Linton, who provided drinks and assisted with the clean-up activity.

Thanks to the above-mentioned individuals. The school’s auditorium and other hurricane ravaged areas of the school have been cleaned up and preparations to receive our children can continue in a much safer environment.
