Proud Anguillians paid a well-deserved tribute to Dr Ellis Lorenzo Webster on Saturday morning, 15 September, at the Mount Fortune SDA Church, his home church, for his distinguished achievement of the First Humanitarian Award from the Hospital Corporation of America.
Pastor Victor Brooks [of World Harvest Assembly Church in The Quarter], stood tall in the shoes of proud Anguillians and Caribbean citizens, as he paid tribute to Dr Webster in these words:
“Dr Ellis Lorenzo Webster, I stand here as a proud Anguillian and Caribbean citizen, on behalf of every other proud Anguillian and Caribbean citizen, to pay tribute to you for the high honour bestowed on you by the Hospital Corporation of America, in awarding you the prestigious First Humanitarian Award. You were singled out for this award because of your selfless, exemplary service in underprivileged, deprived, medically underserved communities in some parts of the USA.
“We thank God for blessing you with a heart of gold that inspired you to use your God-given talents, and your medical expertise in the service of others. Your altruism is a heartwarming example of following in Jesus’ footsteps in service to the needy and the vulnerable. We thank God for your humble and teachable spirit that led you to allow yourself to be molded by the values that formed the bedrock of the Anguillian community in which you grew up. We thank God for the insight of your peers who recognised your sterling qualities and recommended you to be the recipient of this distinguished Humanitarian Award.
“We are very proud of you, Dr Webster. We are proud that a man from The Rock – a son of the soil, an Anguillian – a Caribbean man distinguished himself in the great United States of America to receive this award.
“On behalf of every other proud Anguillian, and Caribbean citizen , I present this gift to you as a token of our pride in, and appreciation of, your praiseworthy achievement. (I ask the congregation to please stand with me in a display of solidarity if I have expressed your sentiments.)
“As the saying goes, ‘Behind every good man there is a good woman,’ so we have included your wife in our show of appreciation, and have ordered a bouquet of flowers to be delivered to her at home in the USA.”
Dr. Webster was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Pastor Brooks and his team on behalf of World Harvest Assembly Church.
