Having successfully launched the new academic year with the orientation and registration of another large intake of students in its Online Degree Programmes, the University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Anguilla is now concentrating on the delivery of its local face-to-face Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) programmes.

These workforce and professional skills development programmes include popular courses like Supervisory Management and Advanced Supervisory Management with Mrs. Aunika Webster-Lake, Foundation Mathematics I and II with Mr. Darwin Hazell and Conversational Spanish at the Introductory and Advanced levels with Mr. Colin Johnson.

Other courses being offered include Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, Finance for Non-Financial Managers, Introduction to Counselling, Law for Human Resource Practitioners (Employment Law), Occupational Health and Safety, Family Law, Introduction to Human Resource Management, Customer Care, Computer Literacy, Creative Writing and Business Writing and Communication, Digital and Brand Management.

New this semester is the Certificate in Early Childhood Education Care and Development programme for Early Childhood/Day Care Providers coordinated by Mrs. Ellenita Harrigan and the Certificate in Protocol and Soft Diplomacy Skills with Mrs. Rosena Brooks. The 2018/2019 academic year will also see the introduction of the University’s Care for the Elderly programme.

“We are pleased with the continued interest in and the growth of our local CPE programmes,” says Manager for the UWI Open Campus BOTs, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks. “While the majority of our students are registered in our online programmes, the locally-delivered, professional development programmes are also an important part of our mandate. Accordingly, we continue to partner with our local stakeholders to meet these needs of the community.”

Some 90 participants in the University’s 2017/2018 CPE Programmes were recognised at the annual Certificate Presentation Ceremony on 26th July and the UWI Open Campus Anguilla Team is anticipating another exciting and rewarding year.

The local face-to-face courses began this week with Foundation Mathematics and the Introduction to Early Childhood Education. The Supervisory Management and Conversational Spanish courses will begin during the week of 17th September, with the other programmes slated to begin later in the semester. Interested persons are invited to contact the UWI Open Campus at anguilla@open.uwi.edu (telephone 497-8156) for further information.
