• August Week Champ of Champs boat race: US$14,200
• The Miss Anguilla Queens’ Committee: US$4,000 to be shared equally among the four contestants,
• Parade of Troupes: US$8,000 to be shared among the registered troops
• South Valley Street Festival: US$5,000
• The Prince & Princess Show: EC$25,000

The cheques were presented to the recipients by the newly-appointed Chairman of the Anguilla Social Security Board, Mr. Sean Richards.

Speaking at the commencement of the press conference, Ms. Rosana Browne told the gathering: “Cultural heritage is very important to social security and it is one of the four areas that the Social Security Board focuses on in terms of social development. We are in support of activities and events that really preserve our cultural heritage, and the Summer Festival plays a very large part not only in our economic but social development as well. It is one of the ways in which we showcase our Anguillian culture. The Social Security Board has always been a partner with the Summer Festival Committee, and the entities involved in staging on the Summer Festival, on annual basis.

“This year is no exception, especially after the challenges we have had with the passage of Hurricane Irma which dealt us a blow. This is one way of us showcasing, as this year’s Summer Festival’s theme says: ‘Our Strength and Resilience like you never seen before.’”

Acting Director and Deputy Director of Social Security, Dr. Maglan Lewis, assured the various Summer Festival leaders of the Board’s continued interest in and support for their work. “Cultural development is just as important as economic development and that is why we are contributing to the Summer Festival,” she stated. “We have provided sponsorships from the Prince and Princess Show to all the pageantry and boat racing. As all of you know, we were the sponsors of Ms. Dee-Ann Kentish-Rogers who has captured Miss Universe Great Britain. We are all proud of her.”

All recipients of the sponsorship cheques expressed gratitude to the Social Security Board for funding their participation in the Summer Festival which will be held from August 1-12.
