THE VALLEY, ANGUILLA – The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) and the Anguilla Amateur Radio Society (AARS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), on Friday August 3rd, officially formalizing the years of collaboration in communication during disasters.
Emergency communication is vital in disasters as effectively delivered information saves lives and ensures public safety.
The AARS have been unofficially serving in this capacity upward of 40 years in Anguilla. The president of the club, Mr. Allister Richardson, said “I am very pleased that it has reached to this stage. Our commitment to emergency operations in times of disasters has been well documented and dates as far back as the 1970s”.
The Director of the DDM indicated that the Amateur Radio Society or Hams work very closely with the Department – supporting and sharing their expertise in ensuring that we can always communicate in disaster situations. Formalising this step is momentous and I look forward to the continued cooperation going forward”.
