A considerable number of Anguillian young people have benefited much from a Pottery Youth Escape Camp, an initiative by the Department of Youth and Culture.
The training was facilitated by Mrs Melsadis Fleming, an Art Teacher and Deputy Principal at Campus B of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School.
The training programme was conducted from 9 am -12 noon, July 9-27. Mrs. Fleming explained the camp as follows:
“Due to the short three-week period, the children were introduced to basic skills in hand-building methods such as pinch, slab and draping. All of the camp participants experienced brief engagements in clay rolling, clay wedging and adding glazes as the final process in the production of high-quality wares.”
Mrs. Fleming added: “I would like to extend sincere thanks to the Department of Youth and Culture for again inviting me to facilitate this year’s Pottery Youth Escape Camp. I would also like to thank the parents of the participating children for their commitment to the programme, and for ensuring that the children were present daily and on time.”
