Winning team – The Roaring Lions

The activity-packed August week has seen yet another event of much interest in Anguilla. It was the Fifth Annual Ani Road Relay. Held on Saturday, August 5, the event involved a number of runners competing for the race sponsored by Ani Villas. The race started at West End and terminated at Island Harbour.

A release from Mr. Ira Bloom of Ani Villas Holdings Ltd stated that each team ran a total of 16 miles with each leg of the race being two miles. The winners for the third time in five years are the Roaring Lions. Featuring a strong team, they completed the race in 108 minutes and 56 seconds. The fastest two-mile leg of the day was run by Gary Viejes.
The winners and the cash prizes were: The Roaring Lions: EC$1,000 (first place 108 minutes, 56 seconds); Fire & Rescue Services: EC$750 (second place 120 minutes, 36 seconds); and Ani Villas/Beach Fit combined: EC$500 (third place 121 minutes, 21 seconds). The other teams were: Fourth, La Severine Fitness (125 minutes, 34 seconds); Fifth: the Royal Anguilla Police Force, (132 minutes, 01 second); and Sixth, Poker Run, (133 minutes, 44 seconds).

A special thank you was extended to the volunteers for organizing the race and to Ani Villas for providing the sponsorship.
