An Anguilla Tennis Academy (ATA) delegation, led by Founder and President Mr. Mitchelle Lake departed Anguilla on Thursday, August 2nd to attend the 2018 Rogers Cup in Toronto, Canada. The trip was organized by Mr. Karl Hale, Tournament Director of the Rogers Cup Tournament.
Mr. Hale said, “With current World No. 1 Rafael Nadal, Wimbledon Champion Novak Djokovic plus Toronto’s hometown heroes in Milos and Denis legitimate title threats, this year’s entry list was one of the most exciting in recent memory. With the improvements we have made around the site, and the festival of events we planned, fans were in for a real treat.”
The Rogers Cup, which took place from August 4-12 at the Aviva Centre, was confirmed to feature World No. 1 Rafael Nadal and Wimbledon Champion Novak Djokovic as part of 19 of the top 20 players in the world.
Accompanying Mr. Lake were Coach Natalie Peffer, Carden Fleming, Jared Hodge, Rhonica Connor, and Savannah Croft. The children and coaches were given VIP access to the facilities and players while witnessing the matches of the top tennis athletes up close.
Founder of the ATA, Mr. Mitchelle Lake, stated, ” The ATA was grateful to Mr. Karl Hale and his team for making this experience possible for the younger children in our After School Program. It is my hope that they will be inspired to work harder toward achieving their tennis goals and pursue tennis scholarships in the USA. The Rogers Cup experience was created to strengthen the partnership formed between Mr. Hale, Anguilla Tennis Academy, and the Anguilla Tourist Board in hosting the prestigious Anguilla Cup (ITF Junior Championships).
